We headed to Nagoya, as it is the hub city for many of the Japanese car manufacturers. Unfortunately, we didn't get the car experience we were vying for, but we did get some great food and some time in Tokyo - visiting showrooms, Shibuya & Shinjuku areas, Tsukiji Fish market and Ueno Park - before we ended our 3-month adventure
Nagoya
That afternoon we traveled to Nagoya and in the evening went to a youth beer restaurant. We ordered some draught beer and ended up ordering dinner, which was probably not a good idea because the menu didn't have prices on it. Our dinner ended up costing $45....oops! However, we got some pretty extravagant items and were able to watch some young business people enjoying some after work drinks and food, which provided a great atmosphere.
The next morning in Nagoya we were going to go to the Toyota Factory Tour, but unfortunately, it didn't work out due to needing reservations and we weren't able to go. So we headed back to Tokyo and visited the Shibuya area and Shinjuku area for some noodle soup for dinner and stopped at a couple of car showrooms instead.
Tsukiji Fish Market
On our last morning we woke up early and headed to the Tsukiji Fish market for our second time in three month. We enjoyed it so much last time that we wanted to take the opportunity to go again. This time we saw a tuna fish that was bigger than us! It was impressive!
Ueno Park
Later we went to Ueno Park and walked through the cherry blossoms that were in full bloom - it made for an absolutely wonderful last day in Japan!
Unique Features of Japan
These were a few of the unique aspects we found during our time in Japan.
The first was the vending machines - they had vending machines for everything!! Including a vending machine that had a litre of milk in it, the ability to order your dinner from it and some that even vended beer! And lots of them....
Everything is on a small scale version - from small houses to small hotel rooms at a capsule hotel, to a small garage and spaces to a mini car wash, they have a smaller version of several things.
Cats are considered lucky in Japan, so we came across several, including the Kitty Cafes.
One of the things we found most interesting in Osaka is they actually pinned down in the stuffed animal or toy in the arcade game where you use a claw to try to pull the item out!!
